Checking in

Well it has been a whirlwind around here, but we are starting to get into a rhythm which is nice. Hayden is doing great being a big sister and constantly wants to hold Preslyn and loves looking at her and rubbing her head. She brings Preslyn her prized possessions to show her and it is so cute. When we rode to the dr. yesterday Hayden stared at her the whole time. Anytime Preslyn makes a peep Hayden lights up and says “what’s that sound? Why she make that sound?”

Preslyn is an angel. She is such a great baby and since she is still technically supposed to be inside me she has been still in a very sleepy state. So basically she is never awake except for about 10 minutes of her feedings and then she is out again. I’m sure that won’t last much longer, but its nice for getting used to another baby in the house. We took her for her follow up checkup/2 month appt. and she checked out great. She is now 5lbs. 12oz. and 18″ long. She had to get four shots and that was so sad. She was sleeping so peacefully and then the nurse came in and kept saying “oh I don’t want to do this…” then she looked at Preslyn’s legs and said she needed to go get smaller needles. How sad. Poor baby cried so hard but was quickly back to sleep once it was all over. She is eating great and even given us a5 hour span last night! whoohoo!!

BJ and I are doing well. It is a circus trying to juggle a two year old and feedings, and pumping and sleeping, paying bills and trying to get a load of laundry and the dishes done here and there, and still trying to get up to the hospital whenever we can, but it is so worth all of the disarray to have our one little precious daughters here in our lives. We can’t wait until Ella can come join in on the chaos 🙂 I can’t believe they are already 6 weeks old! How the time has flown when it is so crazy every day.

Ella is stable at the moment. Just waiting on her surgery. She received another picc line after having 3 iv’s in her head and several in her hands and feet. Hopefully this one will remain infection free so her surgery is not bumped back again. Her little head is nearly bald but only in patches from all the iv’s, but we know it will grow back in no time. She is still cruising to be the big baby weighing in at 6lbs. 10z. and 19 1/4″. Her surgery is scheduled for the 27th, so please be in prayer with us that day for a smooth outcome and recovery. We want our girl home and healthy.

So those are our updates. Keep me in prayer as well, as I am battling a breast infection right now. It hit me really hard on Tuesday and I had a raging fever and then just severe pain. As Deborah said…I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. It is awful!

I want to wish my parents a Happy Belated anniversary! 27 years!! Way to go guys!! As well Happy belated Birthday to Philip and Angelyn!

The last Christmas Picture of our family of three

Preslyn is home!!!

We went and brought home the baby of the family today 🙂 We were so excited to finally get to bring one of our long awaited miracle babies home!!! Although it was a bittersweet day to leave Ella there alone. We did finally get to take a picture of the girls together for the first time ever.

Preslyn & Ella

Ella’s surgery is scheduled for Dec. 27th and the dr. thinks she will probably be there for 2 more months. We are really sad about that timeframe but we know she needs time to recover. I’ll update more when I get a chance.

Here are some pictures….Hayden was so so excited and keeps wanting to help any way she can. She is such a good big sister already.

and still there were three…..

Preslyn had an apnea during her feed last night so she wasn’t able to join us at the ranch tonight. We have to wait five days from her last apnea for discharge, so maybe Monday will be a go.

Soooo tired….will post more later.

My lists are NOT that bad!

Once again, sorry blogworld. I’m so behind on here! I’ve been fighting off pneumonia, visiting my girls and trying to get ready for the week that is ahead of us.

Let me recap the weekend. Friday morning I took Hayden to the doctor to get whatever we needed to take care of her cough and fever. Found out we had a pneumonia which was RSV again. Twice in her life already and of course at the worst time ever. So we got her a shot, put her on a steroid, a decongestant, two breathing treatments every 4 hours and Tylenol for fever, as well as an antibiotic. We had to make a chart just to keep up with all of it. Within 24 hours she was fever free and on the road to clear lungs. We are still coughing but not contagious and believe it was just a bacterial infection, which her body responded to the antibiotics quickly and she is much better already. Thank the Lord!

Anyway, so we get home on Friday from the doctor and I get a call from the NICU telling me that Ella is suffering from strictures in her intestines, as a result of scar tissue from having pneumatosis.
They are wanting to do surgery as soon as it is confirmed that she does not have an infection, which would delay surgery. We had to wait 48 hours on the blood work for that confirmation. So BJ and I hurried down to the hospital hoping they wouldn’t change their mind before we could get there and do surgery suddenly. She received two blood transfusions due to severe anemia (just like her mommy) and when we got there she was so pale and her tummy was extremely bloated. BJ and I stayed at the Ronald McDonald house for the night and visited the girls several times. I was able to feed Preslyn by bottle and had a lesson on “active feeding” which is how to feed a preemie who does not yet know how to suck, swallow, breathe. It was very tedious and poor girl and I were not working so well together. BJ did a much better job the next day.

Anyway, skip to today…surgery still on hold, they confirmed that Ella has two infections both stemming from her PICC line in her arm, which was helping her to not have to be stuck repetitively to receive IV fluids, blood, antibiotics, etc. So they had to remove that and do a line in her head. This was a horrible thought for me, as I had seen a baby have this done on my last visit to the hospital and I almost lost it and it wasn’t even my own child. They even had to shave part of her hair off. (the nurse said she saved if for me and I didn’t even ask her to). They also did a test on her heart because they thought they heard a murmur again, but the echo came back clear. (Praise the Lord again!)

Now for Preslyn, last week BJ and I took our class to be educated in infant CPR as well we took our car seat education course to learn how to properly secure a preemie. Surprisingly, we did learn stuff we didn’t know in that. Preslyn looked so tiny in the car seat.

But she passed her car seat test, today she had her synagis shot and her hepatitis B shot and now she ready to come home!! She is back to full feeds and finishing them beautifully. So we are going on Wednesday to pick that chick up 🙂 🙂 🙂 Whahhooooo!!!!!!!!!!

As of today Preslyn is 5lbs. 3oz. and Ella is 5lbs. 4 oz. and both are in level 2 for the time being.

This morning Hayden and I decorated a gingerbread train for a diversion for both of us. We had so much fun although I think we had more green icing on us than on the train.

“I don’t know about touching this icing stuff, Mom”

ok fine…I’ll try it

here goes nothin’

yummmm i love it!!!

A few recent Hayden stories:

Hayden by her first Christmas tree to help decorate….pardon the dorrito face 🙂

The other day we were driving in the car, Hayden is on her steroid which makes everything far more dramatic in her little life, so Hayden says to me,
H.”What you doin mommy?”
M. “Making a to-do list.”
H. “NOOOOOOO MOMMY (while SOBBING her eyes out) Don’t MAKE A LIIIISSSTTTTT!!!”

Bj and I lost it laughing so hard.

The next one was while we were all three up in her room right after she woke up one morning, she starts walking down the hall but hadn’t had her diaper changed yet. BJ called to her and Hayden answered back…” I Can’t HEAR you!!!” ( oh brother….she is way to young for that)

Last story. Apparently Hayden has decided to assume the Rachel Rakes way of addressing her parents, even from a tender age of 2. This morning I woke up to Hayden calling me on the monitor…”Mommmyyyyyyyy…………moooooommmmmyyyyyyyyyyyy….LIIIIINNNDDDSSSAAAYYYYYY……..
LINDSAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.” I couldn’t believe it. Then several times today she talked to BJ using his first name instead of Daddy.

R S V

For an update on what we are preparing for in these next couple of months…please read this blog that I found. The writer did a wonderful job of explaining what RSV is and why our little premature babies are at such high risk. For all of you loved ones wanting to see my babies out and about…this is why they must be isolated until April 2008 and why we have such strict rules on flu shots.

Murray Blog

Hayden has just suffered her second bought with RSV which resulted in Pneumonia, so while we are praying for protection for our new little ones, we are also in continued prayers for Hayden’s little lungs. “Rhino time” as we call her breathing treatments has become as common as brushing our teeth or eating. Our babies will receive the Synagis shots for the next five months at least.

Rules Redefined

we updated some of the rules to clarify some stuff so read on 🙂

1. Anyone who wants to see the babies for an extended time or on a regular basis MUST have a flu shot. If you do not wish to get a flu shot your visits will have to be limited to a short time and not regularly.
non-flu shot peeps: one visit per week/30 min. max.
***People without flu shots will not be able to hold the babies until after RSV season has ended. This will be determined by our pediatrician, but for last year RSV ended in May.

2. No more than 4 people or one family in the house at one time, other than the caregivers. Visits can not be in large groups. We will only be able to have a few visitors per day so please call before you come.

3. No one under 2 years old. Sorry little babies….grow grow grow and then come see us 🙂

4. Ultra strict hand washing once you enter our home….please don’t be alarmed by the germaphobic habits we have assumed. If you are touching one baby, you have to wash your hands before you can touch the other one. It is sometimes hard to remember this one if you aren’t used to it, but its for the babies’ safety so if one is sick we don’t get the other one sick.

5. No one will be able to enter the home under any circumstances if you are sick in any way. Even allergies. I hate to be the bad guy so please don’t make me have to tell you to leave. I will feel horrible.

6. No kissing on the babies faces or hands. I know they are irresistible but its for their safety.

7. Oh…did I mention ultra strict Hand washing….we have purel bottles stocking up 🙂

8.Please please please give us a call before you come so we can space out our visitors.

Can’t wait for you to meet our little angels in person!!! We really wish we didn’t have to have these rules, but if you had seen the things we have seen in the NICU you would totally understand. We love you all and are so thankful for each of your prayers and thoughts. Your encouragement has meant the world and we couldn’t do this without it all.

Once we are out of the scary preemie stage and RSV season we plan to have an open house Meet the Babies sort of thing so stay tuned!!

Look who we saw yesterday
