Howdy howdy!

Once again I am in a continuous whirlwind. Last night BJ and I finally got a chance to sit down by the fire after the day was done and have nice adult conversation about life and I was so pooped that I fell asleep while he was talking to me. Poor BJ.

So, we are in mad preparation mode right now because…..drumroll….

PRESLYN IS COMING HOME NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that’s correct, she is doing so well and they said if all continues how it has been she will be home beginning of next week 🙂 🙂 🙂 We are all so excited.

This just in……I just got off the phone with the nurse and she said that Ella is so close behind Preslyn that they could very well go home together …..HOLY COW!!! We are finally getting our babies!!!

It feels so much like we are adopting them since they haven’t been home. It’s been a very strange experience for sure, but we are winding down.

Today we are taking infant CPR and then Thursday we have our car seat education class. Also ECI (Early childhood intervention) has been contacted to help us transitioning the babies into our home. These are all signs of impending discharge so its getting exciting around here 🙂

Let me give you some stats real quick….
Ella–
full feeds (8 bottles a day at 18 cc’s/bottle)
4lbs.14oz.
18 1/4″ long
Preslyn–
4 bottles per day at 45cc’s/bottle
4lbs.14oz.
17 3/4″ long

They are finally the exact same weight. They are so beautiful…Preslyn is a little fiery like her mom and is usually a bit redder skin toned then Ella who is pale and calm…like her daddy. They are so precious.

The other day I got to bottle feed them both for the first time. Hayden was sitting on the chair by me and I was talking to Ella saying, ” Come on girl…open your mouth…wake up!” and Hayden starts saying in a very loud and bossy voice…”Open your mouth Ella….Ella…open your MOUTH.” Then proceeds to try to pry her little lip open….it was so funny.

Yesterday Hayden and I put the tree up…mind you…just the tree, no decorations, lights nothing..just branches. It was so funny because she was handing me the branches while saying, ” This one is a big one like a big girl and this one is little like Preslyn…and this one is little like Ella.” The way she says Preslyn is so cute…I really need to get it on video. She says Pweswyn. 🙂 I love it.

Ok..no time to waste…have a million errands to run and a million things to do 🙂 I will be posting our “when they come home visitation rules” soon , as instructed by the doctors…so stay tuned!

Open Crib Alert!!!!

Both of my sweet babies are in open cribs as of today! Preslyn went in yesterday and Ella today!! All we are waiting on for Preslyn now is her to get her feeds up to 8!!! Ella is still extremely slowly going back on feeds so it is still a ways off for her, but little sis Preslyn is coming on strong!!

Here are pics of me holding ElWe are on our way up there tonight and I can’t wait to see them again in the same little pod!la again for the first time since her stomach scare. It seems like it had been ages!!!

And one of little sis, Preslyn 🙂

Bring her home, baby!!

So the girlies are back together again! Ella got moved back to her sisters side yesterday! We are so excited to get to go see them side by side again. It makes our visits so much easier. Ella is 4lbs. 8oz. and Preslyn is right behind her at 4lbs. 7.2oz. They are just growing like little weeds now.

Preslyn got moved into an open crib today, which is another step toward coming home to us! Now all we have to wait on is her to get up to 8 bottles a day and right now she is at 2. So she is coming along quickly! I’m hoping in a couple more weeks she will be home. That would be wonderful. Hopefully big sister Ella will be home soon after her as well. She is supposed to be in an open crib in the next few days as well.

Hayden on the other hand is having quite a rough time lately. She is one big barrel of accidents. She has come home from school the last several times with a new bruise or a busted lip. She is just struggling to stay up on her feet. I think she must be growing right now and her body is a little uncoordinated. She is running so fast lately which doesn’t help her falls at all.

Once again…I have pics that I need to upload 🙂 Back to watching Beauty and the Beast with my biggest baby girl.

Where does the time go???

I don’t even have my babies home yet and I feel like a chicken with my head cut off. I have a suitcase and a box still to go through of stuff from the hospital and paperwork to sort and deal with….this is madness!!

Here are the pictures from the other night of big sister holding Preslyn for the first time.

Hayden was adorable, she was so excited about seeing her sisters and was on her best behavior.

She was so gentle and kept saying…”they are so soft…they are so tiny….i love them”…and she giving kisses so softly. It was precious!
When she was with Ella (who we didn’t get to hold that time) she said….”she comes in the car with me?? She comes to my house?” So sweet!

Family Picture with Preslyn….I can’t wait to have a full family pic!!!

Ella was supposed to start little feeds back up today, we have yet to hear from the doctor on that. She received a pick line yesterday because her little veins are very hard for the nurses to stick, so this will be a central line and it won’t come out until she is on full feeds and doesn’t need iv fluids anymore. She is up to 4lbs. 4 ounces, 18″ long and has an 11 1/2″ head.

Preslyn is up to 2 bottle feeds a day…only 6 more to go!!! She is 4lbs. 3 ounces, a little shorter than 18″ and has an 11 3/4″ head.

Both are on room air, but still in isolettes for now. We are hoping that Ella will get to join her sister in NICU 2 by the end of the week!!!! We are praying she can get her same bed back which was right beside Preslyn.

That’s all I have time for…have to go get ready to go see my girls!

Silly Stories of Hayden

So lately Hayden has been belting out songs at the top of her lungs when we drive in the car. And if you change the song in the middle she gets really aggrivated and says” Hey , I like that song.” It is so funny to watch her sing but its so cute. Last night we were driving home and she was singing to the song on the radio but the words were “I don’t want to go night night…I don’t want to go night night” over and over. We were laughing so hard!

Another funny story was that we went out to eat and all of the sudden Hayden started saying “I gotta poop…I got a poopie!” Well usually this means she has already gone, but she kept insisting that she needed to go to the potty. We were almost finished, and I really didn’t want to go sit in the nasty restaurant bathroom stall and try to balance her on the toilet papered seat so I just told her no not that time. Well we got up to leave and you can see that the pee has soaked through her pants and she was walking like she had been riding horses for days. It was so sad and hilarious at the same time. We did a quick change in the car and were good to go.

The other day, Hayden was taking a bath for a long time and suddenly looked at her hands and said “What in the world!!” She didn’t know why her hands were all wrinkled up. Her eyes looked so worried that somehow her hands were stuck that way for life.

During the Bee Movie, Hayden was watching and suddenly the movie hit a quiet point and at that exact time Hayden let out the loudest burp ever! We started laughing and then she said…”Oh Pardon Me!!!” and it was very loud as well. Everyone around us was laughing too…how embarrassing.

A mini update

I have many things to be thankful for, and want to sit down to put some of it into words, but for now I just want to give a little update. My little Ella has been making up for lost ground. She has been taken off her nasal cannula, her bed is now not warming her…she is regulating her own temp, she is wearing clothes, she only has two more days of antibiotics and then they will start her feeds again, and she is 4lbs. 4.2ounces., 18″ long, and her head is 11 1/2″. She is gaining a lot of weight even without being on milk!!! She will soon be able to be in an open crib and then moved to level 2 with her sister. We have all been under the weather this past week, so we haven’t been able to see the babies since Tuesday. So, the nurse that was taking care of Ella sent me this picture to tide us over….isn’t she adorable!!!!

Preslyn, is doing awesome as well. Her therapy to learn to suck, swallow, breathe is going great. Today she is up to 32cc’s which is just over 1 ounce and she drank the whole thing out of the bottle!!! Whoohoo!!! She is no longer receiving her liquid nutrients, but is doing all feeds by bottle or feeding tube. She also was able to stop her doses of caffein. Meaning her stats are doing great on their own and she doesn’t need that extra kick every morning 🙂

Hayden also had a big day today! We took her to see her first movie in the theater! We saw the Bee Movie and she loved it. I have some pics to add to this post and I’ll do that tomorrow.

For now, I’m hitting the sack 🙂 We are going to see the munchkins tomorrow…seems like its been an eternity since we have seen them.

Happy 2 weeks babies!!

The girls are doing really good. Ella is still holding down the fort in NICU3 . Hoping to start feeds up again soon. Her apnea is improving and she has had no episodes today!! Preslyn is receiving some occupational therapy to learn to suck, swallow and breathe all at the same time. She is trying really hard on the bottle, but just needs a little coordination 🙂 She is creeping her way toward 4lbs. but isn’t quite there yet. Once she gets to 4lbs. 6 oz. she can move to an open crib!!

Well I pray you all have a very wonderful Thanksgiving. I know that I have so much to be thankful for this year especially.

Here’s a quick and easy recipe that is so yummy you may want to make two or three of them 🙂

Mystic Pie

You will need:
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
16 ritz crackers
1 c. pecans, chopped
3 egg whites
Cool Whip Topping

Preheat oven to 300. Combine chopped nuts and crackers, which have been finely crumbled (use a rolling pin). Beat egg whites stiff; add sugar. Fold into nut mixture; add vanilla. Pour mixture into 9 inch baking pan and bake 45 minutes or until golden brown. This looks like meringue. Cool and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before topping with Cool Whip.

Its DELICIOUS 🙂

Miracles around every corner!!

Today has been the greatest day we have had in a long time! First off we thought Hayden was coming down with chicken pox last night so we took her in and she just has a rash but no pox 🙂 Right after that on the way home I called NICU 3 where Ella is, and got a report that she only had one apnea episode the entire shift!!! and her xrays are totally clear and she is FREE OF PNEUMATOSIS!!! It is gone…totally gone! I must have confirmed with the nurse a thousand times! I couldn’t believe that in 4 days it had vanished. It was supposed to be a two week ordeal at the minimum, but our God is a miracle worker and he turned the tables and she is healed!! They are still holding her feeds for a little while and running xrays to make sure it doesn’t come back. Thank you for the prayers because no job is too hard for God. He doesn’t need 14 days to heal, he heals right on time.

Then just now I called Preslyn’s nurse and this is pretty much how the convo went:
“Hi this is Preslyn’s mom”
“Oh, Hi mom, its been a great day. Preslyn is off her oxygen cannula, she is off her TPN/Lipids (nutrients by IV) after tonight, she is off her antibiotics..because her cultures came back negative for pneumatosis. She has had no Brady’s today (Oxygen saturation going down), she is off her incubator warmer and is regulating her temp on her own, she is wearing clothes again, oh….and she started BOTTLE FEEDS today and did great, and she weighs 3lbs. 15oz.!!!”
” ” (Yeah…that is me, dumbfounded)
I kept waiting for her to say….”and tomorrow we are discharging her”

I couldn’t ask for anything more. Especially in one day!
My God ROCKS my face off!

NICU day 12

I haven’t had much time between trying to survive on three hour intervals of sleep…watching a two year old, recovering and trying to make frequent trips to the NICU, but I know there are so many people checking this blog so I wanted to update on the girls.

Ella tested positive for the pneumatosis, which is bubbles in the lining of her stomach. This can be a precursor to a tear in the lining which is fatal if not treated by surgery immediately. The nurses told us that whoever caught this was on top of their game because most of the babies are usually already to the point of surgery before it is caught. I serve a big God and I know that He put that person there at that exact moment. So she is not able to eat until this goes away, which will probably be a couple of weeks. She is also having apnea very frequently and last night when we were up there we witnessed them and it was one of the most sickening feelings to watch my child stop breathing for 20-30 seconds at a time and just lay there perfectly still. It panicked me every time and a couple of times we had to stimulate her to get her to start breathing again. I mean we were pushing her, hard! and she still wouldn’t wake up. I hated it. They said that she is just so sick that her body has to rest even to the point of not letting itself breathe at times. She is so tired and exhausted from being poked and prodded continuously. As of today she only had to be stimulated once and is starting her breathing back on her own after an apnea spell, so that is good. And her oxygen saturation is good as well. Her most recent x-ray showed a slight improvement in the stomach, so that is a blessing.

Preslyn also decided that she would follow in her sisters footsteps and started displaying symptoms of the pneumatosis as well. So they worked up a panel on her (including spinal tap) and we are still waiting on those results to come back. As of right now they are still negative and we are believing that they will remain that way. She is still tolerating her feeds well and hasn’t had to stop them yet, which is a good sign. They started the antibiotics on her as well. So she is still in the level 2 nursery and Ella is in NICU 3.

Thank you for all of your prayers and calls to check up on us. We really appreciate everyone! We are trying to take hold of whatever God has for us to gain out of this experience even though sometimes it seems unbearable. I know He is still in control and has a mighty plan for my girls and for our family.
