Also, Hayden’s eye is healing really nicely and should be normal by Saturday. SHe has been zooming around through the house and her favorite thing is when people act like they are chasing her…she squeels so loud and tries to run. Its so cute! She is also learning lots of new words, like Blue, Pink, Nap (which she prounouces MaP –emphasis on the P) ha! oh and so many more. We are so excited that her birthday is this weekend….I was reminiscing last night that today last year would have been the day that I started getting my first contractions…then tomorrow is when I woke up with them and they never died down!! Whoo hoo…can’t believe its been a year 🙂
Of course one cute pic of her 🙂 I don’t want the blog patrol…cough cough…courtney…cough cough to get mad at me ….lol

The "Real" Cost of Raising Kids

I have seen repeatedly the breakdown of the cost of raising a child(personally I think it is more, MUCH more) but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It’s nice, really nice!!

In 2004 the government calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle, upper-income family.Talk about sticker shock! That doesn’t even touch college tuition. But$160,140 isn’t so bad if you break it down.

It translates into:
$8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week. That’s a mere$24.44 a day! Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice says don’t have children if you want to be “rich.” It is just the opposite. What do you get for your $160,140?

Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
Glimpses of God every day.
Giggles under the covers every night.
More love than your heart can hold.
Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
A hand to hold, usually covered with jam.
A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sand castles, and skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.
Someone to laugh yourself silly with no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
For $160,140, you never have to grow up. You get to finger-paint, carve pumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catchlightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus.
You have an excuse to keep: reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and wishingon stars.
You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, handprints set in clay for Mother’s Day, and cards with backward letters forFather’s Day.
For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the training wheels off the bike, removing a splinter, filling the wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless. You get a front row seat to history to witness the first step, firstword, first bra, first date, and first time behind the wheel.
You get to be immortal.
You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you’re lucky, along list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren.
You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there with the best. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost.

Race day is this Saturday!!! It’s going to be exciting!!

Dear Friends and Family,
I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the Komen Houston Race for the Cure on September 30, 2006 in the fight against breast cancer. One in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more the Komen Houston Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community and support the national search for a cure.
Please join me in the fight by pledging in support of myparticipation in the Race or contributing generously to Komen Houston. Your tax-deductible contribution will fund innovative outreach and awareness programs for medically underserved communities in Houston and national breast cancer research. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause – you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message. If you would prefer, you can also send your tax-deductible contribution to the address listed below. Whatever you can give will help! I truly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you so much for your time and support in the fight against breast cancer! Every step counts!

It’s not too late to join my team or sponsor me!!!

I’m sorry the first half is so dark…I didn’t think to turn on a light; but the second half is cute 🙂

Pray for her though, she is cutting her molars and it hasn’t been fun for anyone, lol.  Poor thing.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We are off to Maggiano’s to celebrate the engagement of Britton and his fiance Jessica!! Enjoy this wonderful weather that is finally here hopefully to stay! I love it!!

The delicate minds of children and the ramblings they produce

In the midst of molar cutting I needed this laugh…maybe you will too 🙂

*JACK (3) was watching his Mom breast feeding his new baby sister. After a while he asked: “Mom why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?”

MELANIE (5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn’t remember any more. Said Melanie, “If you don’t remember you just look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six.”

STEVEN (3) hugged and kissed his Mom goodnight. “I love you so much, that when you die I’m going to bury you outside my bedroom window.”

BRITTANY (4) had an earache and wanted a **painkiller. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a childproof cap and she’d have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: “How does it know it’s me?”

SUSAN (4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. “Please don’t give me this juice again,” she said, “It makes my teeth cough.”

DANI (4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: “How much do I cost?”

MARC (4) was engrossed in a young couple who were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: “Why is he whispering in her mouth?”

CLINTON (5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his Mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, “I don’t know what’ll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?”

JAMES (4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: “The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.” Concerned, James asked: “What happened to the flea?”

TAMMY (4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked, “Why doesn’t your skin fit your face?”

The Sermon – I think this Mom will never forget this particular Sunday sermon… “Dear Lord,” the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. “Without you, we are but dust.” He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening!) leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little voice, “Mommy, what is butt dust?” *

A walker, a bear and a pooped out babe :)

Sorry I have no time to blog lately…just so busy. But I wanted to let everyone know that we have an official walker! Hayden has been walking everywhere and getting really good at it too 🙂 Its been something I kept forgetting to tell you all on here, but its definitely a milestone! I can’t believe her birthday is just around the corner! This year has flown by so fast, and I’m sure it will be like that from now on. I am savoring every moment, and it seems that daily she has discovered something new, or says a new word. Its almost too much for me to keep up with.

Here are a couple of new pictures for everyone…the first one is of Hayden coloring for the first time and like a true BU bear she would only use the color green 🙂 Sic’Em!!!

The next one is so cute, it is of her covered up in her new favorite blankie (hayden calles it “deedee”) after a long long day of work and no nap 😦 so precious!

Go Go Go!!!!

Go check out my Mary Kay blog…the new post is really exciting!!!! I love it!!!!

Thank God for birth control!!!!!!!!!

Fall is around the corner and how do I know this?? Well I could look at a calendar and yes, there in plain view I see that it is September…amazing that this year has flown by. Another way to tell is how “right” it felt as I cleaned and cooked yesterday and walked by the TV to the sound of the Baylor football game….memories of cold weather, screaming fans, and hot chocolate tell me that fall is in the air; or it could be that yesterday as we grilled outside for the first time by ourselves in our married life that neither of us broke a sweat. 🙂 But the sure-fire way to know that the weather has changed and the scorching days or numbered is that the sickies came knocking on our door this weekend.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yes, once again, Hayden and I have the sinus fun!! Blame it on the “like mother-like-daughter factor” but it seems when one of us is sick so is the other. Poor thing has it alot worse then me. Mine took a quick course of sore throat, man voice, congestion, sore tonsils. But hers is runny nose, progressing to a deep congestion in her lungs once again. So we have brought back mister Rhino mask and breathing treatments are undeway.
Seems like everytime gets harder and now it takes both me and Bj to hold down the sick, aggitated, uncomfortable child and hold the mask anywhere near her face. She loves it, let me tell ya!

Oh another bad thing that happened…Hayden cut open right under her eye on Friday..it bled, and I was so worried….but she just got a little scab, and a little whelp, but it wasn’t as bad as it seemed..I was sure we were on the way to our first ER visit.

One thing that she has loved is her new found food of choice. Sandwhiches!!! Yum yumm.

So, she has recently started eating these, and we soon discovered that two slices of bread just wasn’t going to work. She doesn’t know how to bite through the first one and keep biting through the second, instead she would get through the first piece and pull, resulting in a couple of really sticky jelly bibs. So jelly foldovers it is 🙂 She is so cute and gets so excited when she sees me bringing her one.

In other news, being that I have been sick I have watched some interesting programs this weekend…for starters I saw a program on the Duggar family, maybe you’ve heard of them…yeah, they have 16 children…yep you heard me 16! HA! I can’t even begin to imagine….much less imagine when they all grow up and have families of their own..think of the grandkids at Christmas time….I’m picturing mass mayhem!! So they had this show on TLC about how TLC is building this house for them….7000 sq. ft., a pantry that literally looks like a grocery store, a laundry room with 4 washers 8 dryers! a cafeteria style kitchen along with a regular kitchen…the list goes on and on…it was amazing. How in the world can they afford their own family.

Thank you Lord for my one precious daughter….I’m good for now, Really!!

Juli Woolie :)

I must say my week ending and week end were splendid due to Juli visiting 🙂 We had a great time together and got to see friends who I haven’t seen in almost a year and catch up on our lives!! So fun! Of course I only have a couple of pics from the whole time, due to my camera screen wigging out on me halfway through the weekend and then suddenly working again once all the fun was over with 😦 (PPTHHH–that would be me sticking my tongue out and making a sound with it)

We went out to yummy dinner at Tommy Bahama’s; stopped for some Cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory; watched the always cute and funny Fever Pitch; went browsing around town, looking at some friends’ newly purchased 1800’s mansion…so cute and definitely a fun fixer-upper!; Let’s see…then we headed downtown to visit the Body Worlds Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science…amazing I must say!! We loved it! Then we went to Chuy’s and ate some yummy mexican food, then home to crash. Saturday was supposed to be filled with relaxation and swimming and instead was filled with rain, relaxation and catching up on my DVR’d 90210 episodes.

Then we went to hear Jared play at Ooh La Latte and it was a really good show! You should all go hear him sometime!

Hayden got to meet up with her little pal Noah two times this weekend. They always seem mesmerized by each other…its cute!

Today we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel with some pals after church and then home to crash again. Nothing like a Sunday nap! It just makes the week right.

Now the weekend is over….the week is approaching and we are looking towards the weekend again 🙂 I love weekends. Monday’s on the other hand…………. Blech. Oh…but this week we get to see Cary, Melissa, Carson and Co… 🙂 So fun!!
