3 months old

I can’t believe that my little itty bitty babies are already three months old. They are so big to me now even though really they just now look like full term newborns at 3 months old. They are so cute and cuddly each in their own way. Ella hit 9lbs on Sunday and I’m estimating Preslyn is probably in the low 8’s. They are too long for preemie clothes, though they are still little enough for them. Does that make sense?? So mostly Preslyn wears newborns and Ella is wearing newborns and 0-3’s since it gives a little more room for her ostomy bag. They are both really starting to smile alot now and it is so cute. Preslyn has started experimenting with her voice here and there and making new little sounds sometimes. They are both so strong and hold their heads up with no problems. Preslyn is up to 5 oz. per feeding and Ella is at 2 1/2oz.

I just love them both more and more every day and can’t wait to see what the next month holds for us….maybe a full nights sleep?!?!?!

Roughing it up

Hayden came home from school yesterday with a report that she was having excessive “unprovoked agression”. I thought this was a little wierd since Hayden is usually very nice to other little kids. The teacher had to put her in time out several times. So when she got home I laid her down for her nap, but she decided she had other plans. She kept getting out of bed and playing (nap time no-no) and then I noticed on our monitor that she was ripping all of her little flash cards into gillions of pieces. I went up there and she was histerical. Totally not herself. She was crying on the drop of a dime. The day before she had fallen asleep at 5:30pm and woke up for a drink at 11:30 and slept the whole night. Something was up. So I asked her if her teeth were hurting and she said yes and pointed to her bottom right molar…I looked and there it was…her first 2 year molar had finally peeked through. We’ve been waiting for these things forever it seems.

Happy Birthday weekend to Ty and Mary Elizabeth!!! Both are celebrating their 4th birthdays!!! Hope you all have wonderful weekends. Maybe this will be the last one for us as a 4 member family at home!

Newish pics and Congrats

Daddy and Ella…she is so cute 🙂 you can barely see where her dimple is

Daddy and Preslyn…she’s thrilled…can’t you tell 🙂

i was so freaked out that he had her on his shoulders, but had to get a picture of it before I demanded he take her down. Look how little she is!

And… Congrats to Jamie and Billy and Jared and Dannette on their recent engagements 🙂 I have been holding out on posting until the word was out to everyone but just wanted to wish you all happy engagements!! We are so excited for you all! This is definitely the year of weddings!

Some funnies

BJ was getting ready to change Hayden’s poopy diaper (which was evident by the strong stench) and Hayden with big eyes said “It’s going to scare you!!”

The other day she was dressing up with some belts and she had them criss-crossed across her chest. She walked in the room and said, “Look mom, I look like Jesus.”

Today she was telling me that she loved me so I asked her who else she loved and she said “Daddy aaaannndd Pweswyn aaannndd Ella annnnnddd Granna annndd Grandad annndd Sean aaannnn Lexi annnnd my presents. ” (Don’t forget the presents 🙂

Still no Ella yet, hopefully this weekend, but we’ll see.

Influenza

Yep its confirmed. miss ella has the flu. SUCH A BUMMER for her! They said it would be about 2-3 days and then they can reevaluate coming home. They are also considering just doing her second surgery and then sending her home, but that is up to the surgeons to see if she is ready yet. So, we’ll see.

Oh…if you haven’t seen 27 dresses you must. It is so good and funny. I loved it!

She’s smokin’

Ella is running fever, which halts her discharge until they figure out why. Looks like she may have a viral infection (flu, RSV) which STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!! You’ll know more as I know more. Big bummer.

Lightning fast

so…..I just got a call telling me to plan on coming to get Ella tomorrow!! TOMORROW!!!! I must have asked the doctor if she was sure and for real about 10 times!!!

Still five minus one

Ella is still snug as a bug in the NICU but getting very restless. She hit a small bump in the road and started dumping too much in her bag, so they are reworking her feeds and putting her on a specialized formula every other feed to help her body absorb the nutrients better. SO maybe next week we will be a complete family at home.

Tonight we learned how to change her ostomy (bag) and it was definitely strange. We are learning so much during all this….I feel like I could take a few nursing tests and ace them at this point 🙂

Funny story….so to better understand the lack of time I have during my day….I went to get my eyebrows waxed this past weekend because I haven’t had time to even pluck them…let’s just say the lady looked at me and laughed…yeah. embarrassing.

Just a few more days

Ella Preslyn

I just got word that Ella is coming home early next week!!! I am shocked. I don’t think my brain can fully understand what that means. Our little family is finally going to be united for the first time ever. We have never all five been in the same room together so this is going to be so wonderful. As long as she continues to gain weight she will be coming home next week. She is getting her shots today or in the morning and they asked that we bring her carseat so she can do her carseat test! Whooohooo!!! Thank you Jesus for answering prayers so quickly!

Day 77

Today I counted up the days that Ella has been away from us and it came to 77. That is such a long time. Most parents are never away from their children that long and if they are it isn’t until they are much older. I try to not think about the length of time and just go about my days because it seems like it is forever. I want her to be a part of our family and get to know her little quirks like we are with Preslyn. I can’t wait for her to come home.

She was finally moved to level 2 again last night. The nurses are so glad to have her back. She is up to 72cc/feed which is about 150ml/kilo and she has to be at 180ml/kilo to come home, so she is getting close. We may be able to have her for a couple of weeks before her surgery but I’m not getting my hopes up. I just want it to surprise me if it happens at all.

We haven’t been able to see her in a week and a half which is a lifetime for us. We have all three had bacterial infections of some sortHayden had an ear infection and congestion and bj and I both had sinus infections. So we finally went to the Dr on Saturday and got some antibiotics so we are feeling much better now.

Hayden has really been a little mommy lately. She walks around with the burp cloth on her shoulder and carries her babies wrapped up in blankets. Yesterday while I was waiting on the bottle to warm up Hayden darted out of the room. Preslyn was in her bassinet, crying, and so I waited a few more seconds and then grabbed the bottle. When I got to my room , Hayden was standing at the bassinet feeding Preslyn an empty bottle. She was so proud of herself for soothing her and wanted to feed her the full bottle next. She is such a big helper and is learning little jobs that she can do to help out with Preslyn. She loves her so much already and is constantly saying “she’s my baby sister in the whole wide world” ( i think that means in her little mind, she’s my favorite 🙂 She is still very confused on the whole idea that there is another baby somewhere out there that is also her sister.

In other news, we got an elliptical!!! Whoohoo. For Christmas we asked for a few things that we really needed (i.e. a deep freezer or second refrigerator/freezer) and we got lots of wonderful things as well as enough money to buy a new refrigerator/freezer AND an elliptical. I have been wanting one so I can use it here at the house, since obviously our outings are very limited and when we do get one, the last thing we want to do is go work out. So bj has his Bio Force weights and I have my elliptical. Now I can finish toning up and get into shape so I can start running some 5k’s and work up to a marathon! My goal is to run the Houston marathon in January 09. Maybe I’ll at least be ready for a half marathon by then! So our elliptical is here and working (i tried it out yesterday and got a good workout in) and our refrigerator comes this Sunday!! With all the milk I have pumped we have already filled up one freezer plus we have 80 bottles at the NICU still. So we were running out of space. And having a family of five, we had barely enough room in our refrigerator for the stuff we need when there were only three..so I am super excited about my new fridge 🙂 Oh the joys of getting old and getting excited about appliances 🙂 lol.
