Wow, THANKS!!!

So, I go through the drive through, get my food, and then check my bags. I am ALWAYS missing at least one if not 4 things. So, I check the bags and sure enough this time, there were 4 things missing. SO FRUSTRATING!

We learned the hard way to check our bags because this started happening multiple times and we would get home and sure enough it usually would be like the one thing I ordered, wouldn’t be in the bag.

I tell the attendant, “Oh You forgot these four things.” She apologizes, goes back in and gets them. She also hands me a *bonus* drink with a look of “I’m sorry, will this make it better??” So I nicely thank her, thinking, “Cool, she gave me a free sprite or something. How nice.”

So on the way home I reach for the drink, take a big gulp.

WATER. Water???

Thank goodness for a free water to make it all better!

Yesterday while at the grocery store with both twirlies, dressed exactly alike, may I add….

A lady stops us and says, “Those look like twins, almost.”

Hayden Turns 3- Part 1

Sorry this post is so delayed but I have been trying to get it done all week. So, early Tuesday morning BJ and I woke up and snuck into Hayden’s room. She was out COLD.

We sang Happy Birthday and literally she didn’t budge until about halfway through it. She was so excited though that her long awaited birthday was finally here. She has been so excited about this birthday.

So we brought her downstairs and she ate her Dora cereal. ( We didn’t really do a theme this birthday but she loves Dora and asked for a Dora cake, so that’s kind of the underlying theme this year.)

Then she opened our presents that we got her (except for one that we are saving for the party tomorrow.) She loved them and wanted to start playing right then.

So that day I had planned on pampering the little miss! We took her to the mall and she got a big girl hair cut.

It is SOOOO Cute! Much better than the aforementioned MOP. She really likes it and so do we! Then we rode the carosel and had lunch and then went to Libby Lu, where we thought we were going to get her nails done.

But instead they didn’t really have what we were going for, so Grammy took her on to Build-A-Bear and Alexis and I got the babies ears pierced FINALLY! I can’t believe it has taken me this long to get them done, but we have been a little busy in case that point hasn’t been thoroughly driven into the ground yet. We got Ella rhinestones and Preslyn little pink ones. So for those who may not be able to tell them apart, pink for Preslyn. I didn’t realize the little surprise Preslyn was doing for me until I looked at the pics at home. Please excuse my obviously dainty daughter 🙂

Hayden made her purple build-a-bear, who she named Susie. Purple is her most favorite color and they only had two more in the whole store! Yeah!

Then we took her to get her first real manicure at a salon. She got pink with sparkles and a flower on each thumb. They were so cute and she looked like such a big girl! Keeping her hands in the dryer for so long was quite the task but it was such a fun experience! and it only cost me $4! Can’t beat that!!

Finally we were all worn out so we went home for naps. Then later Uncle Sean and Aunt Lexi came over for dinner and birthday cake! YUM!

What a fun day we all had with our big 3 year old!

More to come after tomorrow!

Weekend warriors

This weekend we accomplished a lot of stuff. Sadly we still have SOOOO far to go, but our house is starting to take the shape of a home. I still have a month until my goal to complete the unpacking/set-up before the twins’ birthday.

Here is our new entry rug. We love it! It is just the right amount of classy, hip and double plus!! it had a bird in it. I am so into birds right now. I don’t know why but they are so cute!

Then our room finally got set up. Yay! We have a bed again! Still need to hang some stuff on the walls but its a start.

We had our pool drained and cleaned out. It got so bad from the storm! It is back to beautiful now! We also put up our new curtins.

Then the soft tiles came in for the playroom. This was BJ’s project and it turned out really nice. The girls heads will appreciate it the soft cushiness to brace their falls. We also had a garage sale, cleared out some more from the old house and unpacked a bunch of boxes. Sadly, like I said, still soooooo far to go.

Grrrr…….

Happy Birthday Hayden

Dearest Hayden,

When did you get to be so big. When did you become this beautiful little girl and where did my precious little baby go? I wish I could have captured the exact moment that this transition occurred, but here under our watchful eyes a little girl has blossomed. Oh how we love you so much! Even in the times that I could literally pull my hair out at the 1200th mess that you have made, you always make me secretly laugh inside.

You have become so curious. Well you have always been curious, but lately every other word is “Why?”. I am amazed at how you are relating things together and know so many reasons to things. You are going to be a scientist, I just know it. Or maybe a Broadway dancer. With your love for dancing and music and your intelligent brain, the world is yours my little love. I can’t wait to see your path unfold. You are so smart, beautiful, hilarious and downright sassy.

Daddy and I are praying for wisdom on how to direct you and raise you. Each day is a new discovery for all of us. We have never raised a three year old and are doing our best to raise you the right way. Hopefully you will turn out ok in the end.

Every year at this time I remember the horrible labor I had with you. The exhaustion and anxiety as we waited to see this new person who would change our lives forever. I will never forget that rush as they put you on my stomach and we looked at each other for the first time. If I could have bottled that love and energy I could have fueled the whole world. I still get a knot in my throat every time I think of it. You changed my life for ever, little darling. I could never have imagined how wonderful being a mother could be. You challenge me to make ordinary things exciting, to be creative, to live in the moment and to not sweat the small things. Who would have thought that all that could come along with a slimy, red, screaming, chubby baby.

I wish you could know yourself right now like we do. You are wonderful. You have a bit of an issue with wearing pants or shorts right now, since you have potty trained. You can not stand folds or wrinkles in your clothes or that rub up against you. You adore dresses and being girly, except when it comes to your hair. Oh your poor hair. It is so mop-like. I must do something about that tomorrow. You don’t like me to fix it and insist on wearing it straight down in your face. But I just love to see those beautiful pecan brown eyes hiding beneath the scraggly bangs. I love when you come in my room in the morning and ask to fix me my breakfast. You try to be such a big girl all the time. You are an amazing big sister, even though we are still working on being gentle. I know that will come in time. You just get so excited and get rough. It will get better. You have so much potential. We have to keep you busy or you get into trouble. You are very obsessive about certain things. Keeping things in a line or equally balanced. Having a routine. Everything must complete the same way every time or it throws you off.
You like to clean with wipes anything that I will let you. You love baths, but again, don’t like me to wash your hair. So I have to come up with ways to convince you that hair washing is fun.

My favorite thing is that two nights ago you told me that you wanted Jesus in your heart. Even though I know you don’t know that fullness of what that means. It made my heart shine that you wanted to experience that. We prayed a simple prayer and you were very excited. I pray that you will follow Jesus all of your life and daily search for the deeper meaning of His love. You have the boldness to bring so many people into the Kingdom with you.

I love you so much little Boo-Boo. Happy 3rd Birthday! I hope this year is your best so far!

Mama

Bring on the supper

Just wanted you all to see my new fab fridge. I thought it would never come, but after three failed delivery attempts (Let’s not rehash that ridiculousness) it finally came! Oh I was so excited!!! So if you come over, no one is allowed to touch it. Lol…you think i’m joking

Every time I open it I feel like I hear a choir of angels singing “aaaaaaaahhh” in the background!

Last week Deborah and I took the kids to see Veggie Tales Live. We have never seen them live before and it was really fun!

Hayden danced to the songs and of course sang the theme song with them. Afterwards we wanted to take them for ice cream and so we stopped at McDonalds, and of course they had none. So we settled for parfaits, which are healthier. But what’s up with no ice cream??? That has happened to BJ and me about 20 times.

Oh I guess I should tell you why Hayden is wearing a big bandaid in the pictures. Well around 4pm that day, during her nap time, which she was determined not to take one since she was excited about Veggie Tales, she was balancing on her toy box (its built in and she knows not to do this) she slipped and fell and busted her chin open. It was a pretty bad cut. I couldn’t make up my mind whether it was stitch-worthy or not, so I ran over to my neighbor who has three older kids and she looked at it. She thought maybe she would need one, so I went back and forth trying to decide. I didn’t want to go if they were going to just give her a butterfly bandaid, plus we didn’t want to miss VT, so, I decided after talking with her doctor that I thought we would be ok to butterfly bandage it ourselves. I think I made the right call, because it started scabbing about a day later and looks like it is healing pretty good.

Hayden is getting so excited about her birthday. I can’t believe next Tuesday I will have a three year old. She is changing so much and learning so many things. She has really been learning the stories of Daniel and the Lions den, Samson and Delilah, Jonah and the Whale and David and Goliath. Lots of the names are the similar so she usually says, “Can I watch the Veggie tales about Delilath?” And she also says “Samsom”. So cute! She is getting really good about telling us the stories and getting all the details right. She is also getting better at telling the babies apart. Recently she is even starting to really bond with Ella. I can’t wait to see her at her birthday party. She has been talking about it for months!

I think you will all be happy to know that today I finally finished painting my bedroom!! YEah!! Now we can set up our bed and stop sleeping on the floor and couches. Yuck!

Here are the before and afters of it:

So today was pretty accomplishing! I finished painting, had the men come look at a hot water heater that won’t stay lit–translation: no hot water in the master bathroom since the hurricane, I finished mailing Hayden’s birthday invites, and ELLA SAID MAMMA! Finally!!! I thought they would never say it! So hopefully Preslyn will chime in soon too.

That’s pretty much it…oh besides that i cut my hair off. I need to get a pic but I am waiting until I get it colored until I post a pic. Okey doke…have a super Wednesday!

September

(Storm clouds rolling in in California)

This has been such a crazy month. I have sat down a few times to blog and just the thought of all that has occurred makes me exhausted and I walk away without writing. There is just too much to pass up.

We started the month off with our big move. It was a nice weekend and not too hot, thankfully. Our sweet friends Billy, Holly & Kris, and Chris and Kaitlin and wonderful family, Sean, Britton and PawPaw Boardie graciously helped us get the bulk of our belongings over. I finished all the painting except for one wall in our room. I would have been finished except for that the paint store gave me the wrong finish on my last trip to the store for paint. So I decided to stop and do the move, well since then i have purchased the paint but one thing has led to another and our room is yet to be completed. 😦

Then on to the wedding for our nanny. She has been planning it forever. September 12. Then the hurricane kept coming and coming and they had to postpone their actually big wedding and went ahead and did a small ceremony so they could still get married. So all the bridesmaids were at my house that morning getting hair and makeup done and then we sent them off to the wedding. By this time people were boarding up their homes and gas was getting scarce. Hayden and I rushed down to the wedding and back before the weather got nasty so we could witness the actual marriage. They are still going to do a big wedding later with all the decor and dresses, etc. Misti was beautiful and we pray blessings on her new marriage and life. We will miss you 🙂

(Uncle Sean and Preslyn)

So after we rushed back we prepared for the hurricane. It was pretty nerve wracking with three little girls. We put Hayden’s mattress on the floor next to ours, which was on the floor due to the non ability to set up our bed, due to the unfinished painting. (Yes, it is still on the floor today.) And the babies we put in pack n plays in my new huge walk in closet. It had a vent in it so we figured it would be our “go-to” spot in case of a tornado or a tree falling on the house or something. Early that morning around 4:30am we lost power. That was on Saturday. So we packed up all our food in our fridge, formula, supplies and clothes and headed to the in-laws to wait out the power outage. We started hearing reports that it could be weeks until it was restored. Gas was no where to be found and stores were closed. I got a little worried about having formula and diapers to last that long. Plus we needed gas for our generator to keep working so I called my cousins in college station and they hit the stores and gas station for us and we met halfway to make the swap. They were such a blessing! We were stocked up on food for the girls and for us for a while and they gave us 10 gallons of gas. (thanks so much john and tyan). Thankfully with the hurricane a cold front rolled in and we were graced with 60-70 degree weather for several days. It was fabulous. We had all the windows open and the breeze felt awesome. God does take good care of us!

So we adapted to the power outage. It took some planning to figure out when we could take showers and then when we would have power to cook the meals, but it was an adventure. Wednesday we flew out to California with Hayden and the girls stayed behind with BJ’s parents. Right as we arrived at our hotel we found out that our power came back on!!! THANK YOU JESUS!

California was beautiful! We loved the area we were in. It was Morgan Hill, just outside of San Jose. The mountains were amazing. The trip was very stressful with Hayden. She was out of sorts and off her routine, which made for a very rough time. But we made the most of it. I was so thankful I had left the babies at home or I would have just been a basket case.

My brother got married on Friday and the wedding was wonderful. We had such a fun time and were so happy to welcome Alexis into our family. We love her to death and are so glad to have her as a sister.

The flight home was much better than the flight going. Hayden was pretty well behaved for the most part. At one point, we were sitting 10 rows from the bathroom, someone came out of the bathroom and Hayden stands up in her seat with a scrunched up face and looks at BJ and says, LOUDLY, “DAD, I smell your poop.” It was so hilarious! Hopefully the person who came out didn’t hear her, but it was so funny.

While we were gone the girls both started standing on their own. I was so nervous that they were going to walk and I wouldn’t see, but they waited. It is so neat to see them stand though. They will be walking soon that’s for sure. Ella can do it for a while, but Preslyn is still just a few seconds at a time.

Here is a pic of them both sitting together. I don’t think I have ever gotten a pic of that yet. (Preslyn left, Ella right)

Well I have so much still to do so I must go. My goal is to have the house totally unpacked and set up for the babies birthday party, so we can have it here at the house, so I have my work cut out for me!

Take care and I am praying for the power to come on for all of you who are still without.

Hurricane Ike

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are fine. We have no power and our cell phones are not working very well. Today was the first day I could get signal at all that was not roaming. Occassionally we can get a text so you can get us by that if you need to and we can check our email in the evenings when we run the generator. Hopefully we will have power when we return from California but they have said it could be weeks until the systems are rebuilt. Please pray that it is sooner than that. I had to drive 40 miles to meet my cousins where they brought us supplies and gas for the generator. They are so wonderful to do that for us. So just wanted to let you all know that we are ok. We had no damage to the house which is wonderful. Just lots of big limbs and debris everywhere. We are just having one long campout 😦
