Childhood Habits

When I was little I sucked my thumb. My parents tried everything to get me to stop and nothing would work. They painted this nasty stuff on my finger, sort of like nail polish and I learned to peel it off or suck it anyway. Needless to say, I sucked my thumb until I was in the SECOND GRADE! Seven Years Old! People, that is just embarrassing. It came to the point that I would get in trouble for sucking my thumb. So, in the second grade, my parents stopped homeschooling me and put me in a little private school about an hour away from home. Then my dad would drive about an hour back to work. SO, I’m thinking, I’m good and safe way away from home, I’ll just suck my little ole thumb. It wasn’t like all day long or anything, just when I would get tired or sad or whatever. Well after lunch we would always have story time in class. They would turn off the lights and read to us and we could rest or whatever. I sat on the back row and was going about my day, sucking my thumb, and I catch a glimpse of my dad in the doorway, looking in my class. I felt like shriveling up and dying. What was he doing there in the middle of the day???? Why did he have to see me suck my thumb??? I knew I was busted.

So after school that day, I was a talk-a-haulic. I didn’t want my dad to have a breath to bring up the thumb-sucking sighting, so I talked and talked. Well finally I ran out of things to say, and the dooming words that I dreaded came out, “Lindsay, I saw you sucking your thumb today.” Rewind back to the shriveling feeling. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get in trouble, but that was all it took and I was done sucking my thumb forever. That put the fear of God in me.

Fast-forward 19 years ahead, and I’m driving down the road. I get to a light and decide to peek around and talk to Ella (Pres is conked and Hayden is in the far back doing her own thing) I turn around to see Ella, sucking her BIG TOE like no other! Let’s just hope we can nip that in the bud before Kindergarten graduation.

Vacation for Laundry

Yesterday a friend of mine posted that she didn’t think there was such a thing as having all the laundry done. Now, I must say, maybe if you don’t have kids that may be possible, but with kids, I think it is very true. I was already behind as you all know last week, with a pile about 15 loads high staring me in the face. Then Sunday morning, Preslyn and Ella both came down with a stomach bug, meaning….barfing on all their clothes, bedding, more clothes, more bedding. Repeat, wash, destroy. By the time Hayden and I got home, Hayden started throwing up too and by that night I joined in along with BJ. So, now my 15 loads are back. I’ve washed all the barf stuff, but the 15 that were there before are still waiting.

BJ got to stay home from work on Monday and we were talking about how such a bummer it is that the only days he gets to stay home and have “off” other than weekends, usually neither one of us feel good. Never fun and never feels like an actual day off.

Anyway, for those who feel lost in your laundry….I’ve decided that it is normal and not to feel overwhelmed. And for those of you who do have regular days of no laundry…..just keep it to yourself. 🙂

Time to switch the load and start another one!

The Joys of Moving

So since we moved I have everything, except a few lingering boxes in my office, unpacked that is IN the house. The garage is another story. One side houses our car, so if you ever drive by and don’t see it, doesn’t mean we aren’t home. The other side is 1/4 packed out with, garage sale stuff (hoping to have one in March) and the other 1/4 is stuff waiting to make its way into the house. Today I thought of Hayden’s Little People Doll House and realized I hadn’t seen it so it was probably still out there. So we ventured out into the maze of boxes and wahlah! There it was. We also found her school backpacks and lunch boxes and her mega blocks. Its like it is Christmas all over again!

Just a little dose of Hayden

Hayden has been quite the wonderful big sis lately. She loves helping with her sisters and tries to take care of them like a little mama. They have had awful runny noses again with cutting more molars!!! Hayden can’t stand it, just like me, so she will run and get a towel or blanket or tissue and wipe their noses for them any time she sees the need.

The other night, while I was making one of the many meals for our family, Hayden offered to help feed her hungry sisters. Normally I would have said “thank you for asking but that’s OK” but seeing that they were starving, but I needed to cook, I figured I’d give her a shot.
She did really good and was so proud of herself! Yes, it was a bit messy, but it was such a help to a busy mama!
She has had some quite funny moments lately as well, for instance….
the other day us girls were all in the twins room playing and Hayden suddenly says, “Mommy, we need to send back my sisters.” I didn’t understand what she meant and I asked her where we needed to send them back to? She said “Heaven”. I was a little alarmed and asked her why she wanted them to go back to Heaven? She replied, “because then maybe they will come back and be brothers. I really need a brother and so they can come back and be my brothers.” I thought that was too cute….and no, isn’t being taken under advisement.

Girls day in!

We were privileged to have Skylar over for her first play date last week. The girls were so excited to have a little friend over. They totally surprised me at how funny and lovey they were with her. She isn’t a crawler yet, so her mamma set her down in the play room and my girls quickly crowded around. I think she was a tad overwhelmed because she quickly looked to her mom with a panicked look. I had to keep backing Hayden off of her.

Preslyn buddied right up to her and kept looking at her with the sweetest look that said, “lets be best friends forever.” Then Ella walked up and gave her three kisses without being prompted. It was a girl’s day made in heaven!

We can’t wait for Skylar to come back and play some more! (Oh and us mom’s had a nice time chatting in “adult conversation” too!)

I thought I had more pictures but guess I don’t, Sarah has some cute ones on her blog

p90x…not for the weak at heart (or stomach)

BJ and I started this new workout program last week and it is killer. After the workouts we are literally laying on the floor with not an ounce of energy to even stand back up. We are sticking to the meal plan to a T as well so we are really excited about getting back in shape in the next 90 days and then continuing from there. Its been a definitely lifestyle change with having to prepare every meal plus two snacks per day. And by prepare I don’t mean, slap a sandwich together, I mean full on cooking meals. It takes time and preparation and lots of loads of dishes! Bj has helped me make tons of the meals because it just takes too long without help. I love cooking, but some of these meals take the “fun” out of whipping up a creative tasty meal. But surprising some of them have been delicious. And we have discovered that lots of the veggies we grew up not liking, we now like! The other surprising thing is that we are eating a TON of food, but losing weight. Go figure. Our diet consists of a high protein, fat shredding diet right now. So we are basically eating to feed our muscles right now. Oh what I would give for a bowl of pasta 🙂

Anyway, I’ll post updates about that periodically! We are working out every day (with one day off) plus cooking and cleaning up a storm, so there isn’t much time for much else, but I will try to keep in touch with the outside world as I can.
