Imagination and Learning

This summer has been a different one for us, being that we’ve been trying so hard to get a new business off the ground. At the same time, I’ve been trying to work Hayden back into a schedule for going back to school.

We taught her about growing things and taking care of plants while growing our own homegrown tomatoes. Oh they were yummy and she learned the process of watering and waiting for the fruit to grow.

She also started being rewarded for doing chores. This has taught her responsibility and value. She earns a dime each day that she comes down and has made her bed. Then she uses those dimes to save up for a Vanilla Steamer (her treat of choice at Starbucks). It helps her understand the cost of things and how it takes time to earn money for things.

We frequent the Target dollar aisle for fun craft ideas and learning helps. I’m in love with all of their fun flashcards and Hayden finds them challenging and loves them as well. Her newest favorite thing is puzzles. She has mastered all of our wooden toddler puzzles and we bought her a little 25 piece princess puzzle. That kept her busy for about a week until she memorized it and was ready for something bigger. So we bought her a Fancy Nancy 100 piece puzzle and she is still stumped. She is learning patience and learning how to spot things that are hidden.

I also picked up one of their “big book of preschool” activity books. She has been practicing tracing her letters, which has helped her be able to identify most of her letters and she has been drawing them on her own from time to time.

I picked up a pack of multicolored pompoms (not the cheerleader kind) and we are going to check those out today and fashion them into something crafty.

What kinds of things do you do with your littles during the day to integrate learning with imagination?

GOAAAALLLLLLLLLLL

Hayden’s first real soccer game was hilarious. It was beating down heat and she kept walking off the field so thirsty. There were only 4 little teammates on her team that day so we were really outnumbered. Hayden would get spurts of energy and try to run for the ball and then if someone would come close to her she would get upset and tell them “No No! It’s my ball. ” Then one time she got close enough to score and kicked it in. She immediately started crying because they continued play and gave the ball back to the other team. She was very confused even though we are cheering and telling her that was the right thing and we were so happy for her. It was so sad. She could not figure out why she had just done something good and then they took the ball from her.

I think the funniest part of the game was one time after a waterbreak I overheard her walking back on the field with a little boy talking about the movies they had seen in the movie “Feater”. So precious.

and in love we will always be

my camera is filled with little moments that i have been snagging here and there of my littles as they are literally transforming before my eyes into little ladies.

(P,H,E)
The three of them have been playing so sweetly and imaginatively together. The are really becoming the best of friends, though I did have proof that sometimes they fight like cats and dogs–Preslyn was left with a bite mark on her cheek and Ella with one on her arm. 🙂

Today I heard Hayden talking to Preslyn, calling her “the dad” and “honey” and they were taking care of Ella, their baby. For about 45 minutes, Ella laid on the ground cuddled up in a blanket in Hayden’s lap with Preslyn close by, giving little pretend whimpers here and there. It was so sweet.

(Ella & Hayden)

Feels like I may have blogged this already, but I couldn’t find it in my posts so here goes (maybe again), While BJ was out of town recently Hayden and I stuck glow in the dark stars to her ceiling. These stars were a combination of my stars that I had in high school and BJ’s that he had. We both had them on our ceilings. Anyway, we put them all on hers and turned the lights off and laid there “under the stars” quietly. Out of no where Hayden says to me, “Mom, we’re in love.” It melted my heart. I hope she will never feel like we are far from that moment.

Preslyn climbed out of her crib 7 times yesterday. She is turning into the monkey that I felt inside me and have sensed all along. I videod our security monitor of her doing it and it is hilarious because she is so tiny, yet she scales that crib in two seconds. She had her first sleepover at Uncle Sean and Aunt Lexi’s last weekend all by herself. It is the first time we have split up the twins (other than hospital days) for an overnight stay. The all did great. Hayden got to sleep in Ella’s room at Grammy’s house so she would have a buddy.

BJ and I got to jet up to Waco for a special baby shower for some of our sweet friends that we miss OH so much! Courtney is just the cutest little prego and we can’t wait to meet her little man! I also attended a shower for my cousin-in-love, Tyan. She has the tiniest little belly ever. I’m so jealous! We can’t wait to meet her little guy either!

Hayden had her first soccer game and it was interesting to say the least. Well, actually the game part didn’t happen, it was more of a meet/greet for the kids and the coach. Poor little guys have no clue what they are doing out there, and Hayden was more interested in running off the field and playing with a little girl on the side who had a little stroller for her doll. Hayden was whining that it was too hot (which it was, believe me I wanted to leave.) At one point I told her if she kept coming off the field she was going to be in trouble and we were going to go home. She said good! I WANT to go home. I had to rework my strategy. In my head I could hear myself saying,”Hayden, if you come off that field one more time we are staying here all day long.”

Anyway, business is good. My house is in shambles , between trying to get paperwork sorted, files made, my office transfered upstairs, and my old office turned into a showroom. But we are working on it. I’ve got another trunk show in about 3 weeks that I’m looking forward to. If you are near me and would like to attend, its going to be me and 13 other vendors set up in a mini mall fashion. Email me, (there’s a link on the sidebar) and I’ll give you information! Hoping to launch my new website over the weekend. I know I’ve said that for the past couple of weekends, but its not in my power, so I’m just telling you what I’ve been told 🙂 I’m very excited, I’ve got some really amazing vendors recently and my store is rounding out really nicely. I hope you all love it as much as I do!

Sorry for the delays in posting. I’ll try to get better. If you are on facebook, find me and my store. I have a separte business profile for my shop with tons of updates, pictures, etc!! I’d love to have you be a fan! 🙂

Hello weekend!

My idea of a great start to the weekend 🙂 A fully cleaned out and organized refrigerator!!!!
Some of you have asked for an update on Corey and little Whitt. Thank you guys for the prayers for them. He is doing really good in the NICU, actually same NICU my babies were in, so we know he’s in fabulous hands. He just needs to keep growing. He’s probably got about a month left in the NICU based on his due date. You can keep updated on them, I have a link to their blog Hello from Housper, in my links below.
A sweet moment between Ella and Hayden. Both were not feeling too good.

The other day I went through a car wash and Ella and Preslyn were literally scared of it. They were covering their eyes and ears. So sad, but a little funny.

Have a fabulous weekend!!

Dinner’s in the oven, time for a speed blog

Yesterday we started up a new round of p90x. The first round we did great. BJ lost about 30lbs and I lost 7. The second round BJ did great. I’m not sure on his weight results, but he really did great. I slacked off majorly. I was just overwhelmed with launching my business and helping him with his website, so I didn’t do much. So yesterday we both started again. I am excited because I know the results are going to come and yes, its insanely hard, but it feels so great to be finished each day and know I just worked my rear off! Right after our 90 days ends will be the Race for the Cure and Hayden’s birthday so those will be good incentives to push for.

I’m also back to cooking every night and love it. Its hard to plan meals everyday but it is so rewarding to see my whole family chowing down on a healthy meal that they all really like.

Tonight we are having breaded Parmesan Tilapia, boiled red potatos, asparagus and cantelope! YUM!

In Twirl news, Ella has climbed out of her bed twice! 🙂 Lovely. She is also starting to mimick everything people say. She really wants to start talking. She sings songs along with the radio, the best she can, and is just such a joy. Her new good words are “out” and “up”. She also says “Pebbie” for Preslyn and “Chzz” for cheese.

Preslyn has started saying “Out” as well and “puppy” for any dog or other animal. She is loving animals. She squeels anytimes she sees one.

They have both started a new whole shy routine. Its so strange. They will put their heads down and peek out from the corner of their eyes. Or they will just cover their eyes with their hands when they see people they don’t recognize and even sometimes people they do know. On Sunday Preslyn cried her eyes out when we put her in the nursery. It was so sad. She was clinging to me like crazy. I put her in and watched from the window and she stopped almost immediately. All the while Ella stayed right by her side and pat her head from time to time to let her know it was ok. It was precious!

Hayden is growing like crazy lately. She is getting so tall and people that see her are completely shocked that she is only 3. Her new word today was “occupy”. She used it all day long and loves talking like a big girl. It amazes me how many big words she has been learning lately and makes me sad that the toddler days are drawing to a close and little girl days are full speed ahead. Seems like its happened all to quickly for me.

She is going to be going back to school in the fall after a year off, spending quality time with ME 🙂 She is really excited and I’m excited for her. She doesn’t have many friends, that are girls, that are her age and she is really needing that in her little life. So we are all excited for her.

Welp, the buzzer just beeped so its time for the Parm Tilapia!!
