Top 11 Ways to Avoid Having your Car Abducted

A few car safety tips for those who don’t want to lose their rides this summer…or ever for that matter 🙂 Some of these almost sound like they could be jokes or on David Letterman’s top 10 list of ways to not get your car stolen, but hey…I’m just putting it out there for all to hear! 🙂 Please excuse my comments…I coudn’t resist.

Here they are:

1) Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even while driving. Close all windows and sunroofs, no matter how hot it is. ( Ha…NO KIDDING!)
2) Never leave your keys in the car. (Even when you are driving?? But how will the car go??)
3) If possible, park in busy, well-lit areas. Thieves prefer to work in the dark. Leave your car in park or in gear with the wheels turned toward the curb or some other obstruction, so thieves won’t be able to tow it easily.
4) Avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle where passersby can see them.
5) Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle if it doesn’t have one. A mechanism that locks onto the steering wheel can be a very visible sign that you’ve taken steps to protect your vehicle. Ignition cut-off systems prevent a car from being started. Some new cars come with passive alarms that activate automatically when the key is removed from the ignition. One system emits a signal that can be tracked by the police. Thieves are reluctant to steal vehicles that can be tracked and recovered quickly. Many insurers offer discounts for these types of systems.
6) Beware of the “bump-and-rob” technique. Carjackers bump your car from the rear, then steal it when you get out to look for damage. When stopped at a traffic light, leave room to maneuver around the vehicle ahead if you need to. If another car bumps yours and you feel threatened, drive to a populated area. If you have a cell phone, call the police for assistance. (Call the Police…no way…who’da thunkit?)
7) Do not leave registration or title in the car. Too often a car thief is pulled over and gets away from the police because he or she can produce the auto registration. If multiple drivers use the vehicle, the best suggestion would be to hide the registration in a secret location that only the owners know. (Note to self…when going to the grocery store, get Hayden, diaper bag, purse, keys, cell, grocery list, debit card….finger foods for H. oh…and registration…sheesh.. I’ll try to remember.)
8) Look around. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in garages, parking lots and gas stations. (For some reason I picture a Jackie Chan-like figure, in all black, jumping out and running to the rear of the car and checking both ways for “bad guys” before dashing to the store.)
9) Know where you’re going. Avoid known high-crime areas even if the alternate route takes a little longer. (aw…c’mon…but the high-crime areas are so cool!!) Do you think they have a sign that says **Attention: HIGH CRIME AREA AHEAD>>> Take Mommy Detour IMMEDIATELY!!!)
10) If confronted by a carjacker, do not resist. Cars can be replaced; you can’t. (ok..I won’t but I’ll grab my registration while I’m not resisting 🙂
11) Have your car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) etched on each of the windows. Car thieves want to get off cheap. They don’t want to go to the expense of replacing all the glass. (Uh..no thanks…that would be hilarious looking.)

If..for some reason these do not pan out for you like they say they should…get car insurance now. Car Insurance Companies

"That’ll be 5.3 blocks please!"

Well it is 12:07 am….do you know where you children are?? Yes, I do. I always thought that was so funny when they would air that phrase late at night…then I realized the reason was due to the city-wide curfew going into affect. I never really understood the curfew thing…(not the parentally inflicted one) the legally inflicted one. I mean, I understood the reason for it, but not how it was supposed to be monitored. Ok, for instance, first of all, I don’t even know nor did I ever know what the curfew was…so, I was a working high school girl that worked the Friday night shift at the local Kroger..so would I have gotten pulled over, given a ticket, or a citation or what, say I had to get gas, or went to rent a movie or something?? And what about going to a late movie…how are you supposed to go if there is a curfew around town?? If you know please enlighten me for future references! Thanks!!

Sheesh…the gas prizes are killing me!! The other day I pulled up, filled up, and paid and then had a mild heartattack as my receipt printed….$69 and I wasn’t even on EMPTY!!!!!! AHHHH!!!! I remember when I first started driving and I could fill up the whole Civic for about $13-14. Unbelievable! That would barely put me at a quarter of a tank these days. I think its crazy how during the hurricanes the gas prices went through the roof and then back down so that we would stop freaking out. But now, they are right back up there where they were then and no one seems to think twice. The scary thing is that we are in hurricane season again….I wonder how high the prices will go this time.

Random thought:
I did some looking into on the subject of gold and silver and holding there value and I found some surface info that was pretty interesting….check this out! GOLD Though it says that silver holds its value…can you imagine having to carry around blocks of gold and silver in your purse…ha! And we think that the fad now is to carry a whopper of a purse…think what we’d be carrying around then…I can picture all these moms walking around with those portable boxes that roll behind them….(yes I currently have one) but I don’t use it on a daily basis to carry around my silver! 🙂 And another problem with that would be, how in the world do you make change with a block…”yes that will be 5.3 blocks please” ” Oh, I’m sorry but how would you like the .3??” So would we all go back to the credit system?? I now have .3 of a block of credit at Blockbuster…will that cover my late fee?? 🙂

Ok so I am going to start a cheers/Jeers….I know its so “done already” but I like it….gives a good summarizing of the daily highlights and lowlights.

Jeers: Youth camp lasting until 12 am and BJ not having his house key….
Cheers: Family Reunion tomorrow!!!!! Yippee!!

Roll Call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like my office is overtaking me!!!!! AHHH!!!! I am reorganizing everything and I feel like it keeps getting worse and not better. Ugh! At least at the end of it all I will be very organized and get rid of all this paper work that I don’t need!

Anyway, last night was the first night of youth camp and it was really good. There are about 120 kids there!! Hayden did really good, but I don’t think I will take her again because it was so late when we got back. Plus when we got back the people that we took in the car with us accidentally locked their keys in their car and so we had to wait for someone to come unlock it for them. Our two babies were so so so tired!! Hayden was going wild crawling everywhere and acting like a lunatic! It was really funny.

Anyway, I am really excited because I am getting my first Mary Kay recruit at the end of this month and looking for my next one!! Is it you?? I say the fun thing is getting all the fun prizes and the discount on makeup. Plus earning money on the side. Can’t beat that!

Well back to they attack of the office!

Hope everyone is doing swell!!

OH, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while…Ok..I have over 20,000 hits on this blog and I wonder who is out there reading, so…lets have a roll call. go to the comments section and leave me a message or just your name…I want to see who is all out there 🙂

3 years of weddedness :)

So our Bentwater plans didn’t work out for this weekend, but we still had a really fun time. We went to Chuy’s for dinner, then to main event and had fun playing all the games, and then to see “The Lakehouse” (which was very pleasant indeed). All around a fun time was had!! I love these pics, though they are kind of pixel-y. Oh well…you get the idea!

A cow day

Paintball…Hmm…now this is an intersting topic. I have never played it before, but I’ve heard that it is really fun, though you can get hurt pretty bad at the same time…yikes. I am not up for getting hurt while having fun…but I do want to try it out sometime. Anyway, for all you die hard paintball lovers, here is a site that might be interesting for you to stock up on equipment. You can get cheap paintball supplies here!!

I did like the movie “Failure to Launch” when the girl is the last one to survive her first round of paintball. That made the game look easy and fun!!

Random new thought of the day…did you know that Paintball guns were originally used by farmers to mark trees and cattle. Picture this, a nice little cow, minding his own business and just eating away at your grass–not a care in the world. Suddenly he looks up and sees his owner approaching, and thinks how nice. A big “cow smile” comes across his face as he looks on and then suddenly…BAM, he is shot with a paintball gun. What in the world!!! That’s when, I, as a cow, would charge him and trample him down!! How rude! Can’t a cow just get some peace and quiet please!!!!

Rhinoplasty –anyone up for a nose job??

ok..so just to warn you…I am now getting paid to BLOG!!! Whahoo. Some of my posts might be a little odd at first so just bear with me 🙂 I don’t want to lose all of you faithful bloggers because I get really boring! Maybe it will even be more exciting, who knows…anyway, for those of you that just love to blog and why not get paid to do it….here is the site that I hooked up with. Blogitive

So! Today the topic of the day is…. Rhinoplasty Toronto which is basically just a nose job. Now I can understand people getting this done, because, hey your nose is the one thing on your face that literally sticks out..so if its crooked, or has a big bump on the bridge or something, I can understand people wanting to get it fixed. I personally broke my nose when I was a junior in high school and when I got it fixed, they were going to straighted some original damage that had been done earlier in life…(we think my brother broke my nose with his head once when we were little). But they got in there and said they would have to rebreak the nose due to alot of scar tissue buildup, and really it wasn’t a big deal to me so I didn’t do it. I shall live with a crooked nose for now 🙂 I’m not big on having work done that is really unnecessary because mainly, I hate shots, so I hate surgery and I hate pain and putting myself through undue pain is not fun for me! I don’t know how those people that go on Extreme Makeover can watch the show prior to going on and then opt to do it. Yes, some of the people are gorgeous after it is all over, but yikes!! The going-through-it process looks horrendous.

Well enough is enough…I told you the posts might be a little different..but oh well. Yesterday we celebrated our 3 year anniversary!! Wow! Bj sent me a dozen pink/white roses. We didn’t do anything big since it was a church night, but we are maybe going to stay at a guest villa at Bentwater this weekend 🙂 So excited!!!

Anyway, Happy Birthday to my best bud, Deborah! 🙂 I hope your day is amazing.

8 months and too cute!!!

These are some of Hayden’s new pictures and I just love them…she is getting so cute and fun and learning how to smile for the camera…she’s a little ham 🙂 She went to the doctor today to get rid of this cold that she’s had and for comparison she is 21lbs. 🙂 Still no more teeth and dr. says they aren’t close. Bummer. We are brushing the two she does have though 😉 Hope you enjoy the pics 🙂 Tomorrow is our third anniversary. AMAZING! I can’t believe its been that long, then again I can’t believe its only been that long.

Take care!!

Ny Ny sleepy bird

Sorry not posting for sometime…..seems i have been very busy with all sorts of things. I am in the process of moving my ‘real world’ job office into my home..so that has taken some tactical planning and rearranging, that of which i am not finished with. It’ll be another week or so on that.

I have also taken up gourmet cooking. I love it. I love cooking, but never seem to have the time to sit down and think and plan. So the other night I did just that. I sat down, planned meals (three course ones at that) for the next oh, three weeks or so…made my grocery list, which was 2 pages front and back and required one 2 hour shopping trip and one other quick one. Both of which my precious boo boo ( the nickname we have for Hayden) accompanied me on. Let me tell ya, shopping for things like masa harina and curry paste, which i have never bought or even heard of before, while entertaining a 7 month old child at 7 pm at night is an art. But I pulled it off and have made my first two meals this week. They have been good. I love knowing what we are having each day, knowing I have all of the ingredients, and knowing that it will only take me 20 minutes to make a fab meal for my honey and me 🙂 aHHH…. the joys of the Million Menus cookbook. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&isbn=1405456892&itm=1

What else…oh started a 30 day health makeover. Its cute, each day it has an organizational tip, a motivational tip, a total health Fakeover tip, a spa on a budget tip, and so on. Plus it plans your meals out for you. But I am not doing that aspect until July. The recipes call for no red meat, sugar, or dairy….that will be a tough one, but should give some big results too. I’m still working out four times a week. I love it…who knew that playstation games would be so motivating. I got this game called Yourself Fitness and it is an interactive game ( you don’t play it, is is just a playstation format or X box if you have one, that allows you to specify things unlike a DVD would). I love it because it is tailored just for my personal goals and the workouts are challenging. Its been good for me to do while I nurse my wounded toes and wait my cross country outdoor exercises. http://www.yourselffitness.com/default.aspx

Anyway, Hayden has been saying …”ny ny” when she gets tired and wants to take a nap or go to bed at night. It is great…she loves and knows when she is ready to sleep. Makes our life easy not having to wrestle a screaming child to sleep. She just tells us and we put her to bed. So wonderful. I have an angel child!!! She is also still clapping, working on waving, saying “da Da” and crawling and pulling up on everything imaginable! She can also feed herself pick-up foods. I can’t believe how big she is getting. I love every stage that she goes through.

Well I am off to work out, read and go “ny ny”… 🙂

PS… Jeers to Rachel R. giving me an awesome blog to read…like I need another blog to check every day 😉 Check out… http://thisfish.ivillage.com/love/ It’s great!
