Valentines Day Upcycled Blowing Kisses Skirt

This Valentines I had made a commitment to myself that I would NOT buy my girls new clothes to wear for Valentines. But I did want Hayden to have something cute to wear for her school party. I found this idea a while back and made a mental note that it would be the perfect little outfit for her party. Not too fancy for school. Easy to move in (its made out of an old T-shirt) and super cute. Hayden loves wearing skirts so I thought NO problem.

Last week while I was sick, I was pulling all of my big tshirts out day after day to wear. When I pulled out my old great AmeriMcCAIN Hero tshirt, I thought, this is a perfect red for that skirt and I can do without one less giant shirt to sleep or be sick in. Then the days passed and we had church every night this week and the time just got away from me.

Well just like many of the wishful-thinking crafts in my to-do list, I figured this one would go to the “don’t have enough time for it” box. I hate when I find cute ideas, have a reason for them and then don’t have 39 hours in my day to get them done. So last night when we returned from church, we started gathering all the things we needed for the party.

Strike 1: Found a box of leftover valentines from last year  (once again,I  found a super-cute idea for v-day favors too late, We’ll be ready next year though!)
Strike 2: realized that the roll of cookie dough in my freezer that I had written off buying a replacement for, was indeed gingerbread dough instead of cookie dough .So, I had to whip up a batch of homemade sugar cookies at 12:30am.

So apparently the way my brain works is when things go wrong, that’s when I need to make things harder on myself instead of just saying, “Eh, wear something red to school. ” That would have been strike 3, and striking out is not an option for this Mamma . It was after the last pan of cookies came out of the oven that I decided…”that skirt can’t be too hard!?” Plus, I’ve already got the t-shirt washed and ready. So up to the sewing machine I went. The tutorial said it would take about 30 minutes. AWESOME!

Well it didn’t take 30 minutes, BUT, I’m very pleased with the result and so glad that I stuck to my guns and didn’t buy anything “Valentines-y” and now my little Hayden gets to wear something special made by me on this day of celebrating Love. And to top it off, the white hearts that are reverse appliqued (sewed underneath the skirt) are from my PawPaw’s old tshirt. When my Granny died, I inherited her sewing machine and much of her sewing supplies. In her stash was a stack of tshirts that she had cut up from his track meets. I’m glad I finally found a purpose for one of them. I think she would be proud to see how I was able to make use of them.
Hayden was very excited to see her new skirt and get to wear it to her Valentines party. I finished a new design of a hairbow I had been working on. It went well with the colors for today.

XOXO,

Valentines Day — Part 2

For valentines this year we kept it pretty low-keyed. We had a pretty full week and weekend so we kept it simple. BJ showered us girls with lovely bouquets of flowers. I hate that I didn’t take a single picture of them, grrrrrr….but they were lovely! He also got me some fab shoes that I have been wanting 🙂 (going against the “lets not get any gifts rule”. We had decided to just hang out and splurge on our diet and order a pizza and watch some tv. So I secretly ordered the heart shaped pizza and when it came BJ opened it and laughed, so I told him, “Don’t say I didn’t buy you anything.” It was pretty corny, but it was fun to just hang out together. February also marks that we have been together now for 9 years! WOW! It has been wonderful and I’m so glad that we are still together and in love 🙂 BJ asked me what I wanted and I told him I had absolutely everything I could ever want. And that’s the truth. I have a wonderful life and family and I couldn’t ask for more.

Ok..enough of the sappy mush…here’s a funny pic for ya

On Valentines Day, we took the twirls with us to breakfast. Hayden stayed the night at her grandparents. It was fun, because we rarely go to restaurants with them. They did so good and flirted with everyone around them.

The Day of Love — Part 1

Although I am not a fan of only recognizing those you love once a year, I do love Valentines! This year I wanted to have a really fun get together with some of my mommy friends and their littles who aren’t yet in school. Since Hayden is home this semester she was really looking forward to exchanging valentines, so we planned ourselves a little soiree.

Kristin & Lola/Sarah & Skylar Meredith & Taylor Leslie & Lenorah/Alli & Canon
It was so much fun! Everyone came over for breakfast, the kids played and the mommies gabbed our little hearts out! It’s so nice to have other mommies to hang out with and socialize with.

Jordan, Joyelle and Lenorah
I must tell one funny story. Hallie was wearing an adorable flower headband and Christian (Meredith’s little boy) didn’t know her name…so, he came in to tell Hallie’s mom, Jordan, something and said “Rosehead won’t give me the toy back (or whatever it was)”….It was so funny that he called her Rosehead”. LOL!

Ty, Hallie AKA “rosehead” and Hayden

I’m so sorry I didn’t get pictures of Christian, Jace or my Preslyn and Ella 😦
I think we need an official playgroup for all of us in the area!

We ARE alive….barely

So adding a third child to the mix has rocked our planet. We are beyond exhausted. We are trying to get the babies on the same schedule, but being in a three month routine in the NICU is not easy to wean off of.

E&P

We are loving being able to love on our little E-diddy as we like to call her, whenever we want to. But my life pretty much involves making milk, changing diapers and ostomy bags, bathing, and feeding my family. Occassionaly I get some sleep at night 🙂

E&P

We went in for another synagis shot (to prevent RSV) today and a weight check and I think you’ll be surprised to know that Ella is 9lb. 8oz and Preslyn is 9lbs. 5oz. !! I couldn’t believe how close they were. Ella is 21 3/4″ long. Pres didn’t get measured. My littles are growing so fast and getting so big. Its sad to think that most of you will never know how small they were because by the time you see them they will look like normal sized babes.

E&P

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentines!!

P&E

Oh yes…and to answer the most monotonous question ever…yes, we are done adding to the size of our family 🙂

Happy Valentines Day

Well the sickies are going away and I’m locking the deadbolt behind them. I am so tired of them. I am feeling much better and so is Hayden. We still have an occassional “blue” spell, but now we know what to do with them so I’m a pro now 🙂

Today is our first real Valentines together as a three person family. Last year, we were in the hospital in Oklahoma with my grandmother and family after her stroke. Bj was here by himself. It was kind of sad, but life happens and doesn’t usually ask you what day is better for it to happen. So we are excited to spend today all together. Hayden got “The Little Mermaid”, a strawberry CD/DVD case for HER cd’s and dvd’s for road trips, and some cute little valentines monkey socks. She loves monkeys.

We don’t have plans for tonight, but tomorrow, BJ and I have reservations in Houston at Maggianos Little Italy….YUM. If you have never been there, you have to go. And when you do, take a group with you so you can get the family meal. They let you select two of every part of the menu, so you get two appetizers, two salads, two pastas, two main courses, and two desserts. The bowls are HUGE and so you dig in, but the best part is when you finish a bowl…THEY REFILL IT..and keep doing so until you leave, and another great part…you get to take home everything you don’t eat. So refill one more time and box it all up 🙂 Its amazing! I am excited and can’t wait to eat tomorrow.
